" The word reiki actually means Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy and that is a great description of what is happening between the practitioner and client "
What is reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan and has become very popular in the West in the last decade. The word reiki actually means "spiritually guided life force energy" and that is a great description of what is happening between the practitioner and client.
This form of alternative therapy, has been reported to provide symptomatic relief and emotional support for a variety of issues.
Its natural healing energy is transferred as a frequency, in a peaceful, serene treatment. Because it is both gentle and profound, it is considered by many to be one of the best preventative health practice available.
Most client report feeling deeply relaxed, yet energized and have a greater sense of peace and well-being after a reiki treatment. There may be sensations of warmth or tingling over an area, or the client may experience emotional release as a result of the healing energy.
One thing reiki may not do for you is to produce a spontaneous "cure". Although it does complement the natural healing processes of the human body, one session is usually not enough to relieve a chronic or severely acute condition.
However, a series of three or more treatments for serious issues can be beneficial. Having regular treatments is also thought to help individuals maintain vibrant health and well-being.
How does reiki work?
In a typical reiki treatment session, the client rests on a massage table fully clothed, and is encouraged to drop into deep relaxation.
The practitioner then places her hands either directly on the client, or just above, in a series of 12 common hand positions appropriate for that client's needs.
Generally, the practitioner transfers healing energy in the form of symbols to the client's energy systems, such as the meridians and chakras. Sessions can last anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes.
It is believed that reiki works because powerful intentions carried by the symbols can have a positive effect on the energy of the body.
The practitioner is not actually using her own energy but is allowing the universal energy field to flow through her to the client.
Based on the principles of physics, a more powerful, positive energy field (like reiki) will be able to influence a weaker, negative energy field (like disease), and shift or move it. Therefore, the reiki flows through the client's energy bodies and releases areas built-up with physical and emotional pain, allowing those areas to regain a more natural flow and restoring nourishment to vital organs and tissues.
What are the benefits of reiki?
Although the popularity of reiki is growing, there has been little research done to actually "prove" how it works. Most of the evidence in support of Reiki consists of reports from the clients themselves.
However, there is a growing base of research supporting that reiki treatments can be effective in healing symptoms and increasing overall well-being.
Many health care fields find that reiki is an ideal complement to traditional medicine and at the very least, does not produce any negative side effects for the patient.
The range of issues that can be treated by a reiki practitioner seems to have no limits. Those who have been treated with reiki have reported increased pain management, reduced anxiety, improved sleep and digestion and less depression as a result of their treatments. Can't think of anyone who would say "no" to that.
The treatments also seem to help patients recover more quickly from surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and even substance abuse.
Reiki seems to support the body on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels, which allows the body to more easily heal itself. It almost sounds too good to be true.
Can I learn reiki?
Although this practice seems a little "out there", there is no limit to who can learn to use it. There are many reiki courses offered and the training is open to anyone who wants to learn and share it.
There are three levels, or degrees, in the reiki training. In the first degree, the student receives "attunements" from the teacher and learns the basic hand positions for administering reiki.
In the second degree, the student continues to learn symbols that are used in distance healing. This level enables the practitioner to send healing energy over time and space, and the client does not need to be present to receive the healing.
Finally, the student is ready to receive the final attunements and the last symbol, can be called a "reiki master" or "master teacher" and is able to teach the three degrees to others.
Due to the natural ease and simplicity of this modality, there is an abundance of reiki courses and teachers. Some traditionalists contend that it takes years of patience and practice to actually master this ancient art, so be careful when choosing a practitioner or teacher.
When you think of energy healing, you might immediately think of reiki. Whether or not you know what it is, chances are that you have probably at least heard of it.
Many people believe that the mind can heal the body, and there have been scientific studies that have begun to prove it.
Everything is energy, in one way, shape or form, and although energy cannot be destroyed, it can be transformed and cleared.
The premise is that the mind can heal the body and that each and every one of us has a thousand-year-old healer within us.
Some say that we all have access to this sort of healing power; we simply need to learn how to use it and how to channel it.
There are many people who say that we all have psychic abilities, and we all have equal access to the spiritual world.
Some of us choose to activate these kinds of powers and develop this power, while others choose more worldly pursuits.
" It is a growing field that is becoming more well-known each and every day. Some people can see the energy emanating from their body, while most of us cannot "
Everything is energy
Reiki is one of the most effective methods to heal your body and spirit. Emotions such as anger, frustration, anxiety and jealously can be bad for your health.
Everything is energy, and the truth of the matter is that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed. If you believe in this theory, you begin to see that hurtful emotions can often transform into illness and disease.
Well-being encompasses all of your parts, not just your physical body. When your emotions are in turmoil and you are continually anxious and stressed, you aren't really doing yourself any favors when it comes to healing.
Reiki and alternative healing
Alternative healing is becoming more mainstream these days and gaining more respect as a practical approach to wellness. It's intriguing to say the least, and it seems like just about everyone is seeing a healer, guru or shaman these days.
The amazing power of reiki can be used effectively to help you with your spiritual healing needs.
You wonder if maybe you're missing out on something, but at the same time, you don't want to be taken for a ride. When you think of reiki and spiritual healing, images of a figure dressed in robes chanting and waving rattles around is more than enough to make you think twice, but is there really something to this?
Spiritual healing does not necessarily focus on "curing" something, so it disappears or never comes back. The true meaning of healing addresses the person as a whole and works toward what true health looks like for that person, wherever they are in the disease or healing process.
A spiritual healer is able to tune into energy of the physical and nonphysical body and work these energies to encourage and support the body's natural healing process.
Healers realize that the path to healing is not always straight and are capable in dealing with symptoms that don't necessarily add up.
There is a growing amount of research that supports the existence of energy healing and the whole range of its benefits.
A spiritual healer works to heal the client on many different levels. From physical symptoms to emotional patterns and psychological issues, the range of conditions that can be treated with alternative healing techniques seems to be limitless. And the side effects are almost nonexistent.
The world of spiritual healing is an objective reality, if not quite as concrete as the world we're used to.
Perhaps the only way for anyone to really know that spiritual healing actually works is to try it. The true path to healing is very personal.
If there is even the slightest chance that we can tap into spiritual powers to heal our body, why would we not take it? Energy healing has been used for thousands of years, and ancient shamanic healing practices used the same type of process.
